The lake “Zwischenahner Meer” is located just a few miles away in the district Ammerland in North Germany. The location – lake and surrounding area and villages – is magic. My favorite seasons are autumn and winter but all seasons add a special character to the lake. Here are few images of “my lake”. You will find a local tradition in restaurants at the lake at the end of the post. Prost!
Enjoy your weekend! Reinhold

Local tradition
Locally smoked eels are a delicacy, particularly when served with a locally produced schnapps called Ammerländer Löffeltrunk. There is a specific local tradition (also called Ammerländer Löffeltrunk) to drink it from a tin spoon along with a special drinking cheer, each line alternately spoken by the host and the guests:
Original (Low German) | German translation | English translation |
---|---|---|
Ik seh Di! | Ich sehe Dich! | I see you! |
Dat freit mi! | Das freut mich! | That makes me glad! |
Ik sup Di to! | Ich trinke Dir zu! | I drink to you! |
Dat do! | Tu das! | Do that! |
Prost! | Prost! | Cheers! |
Ik heb Di tosopen! | Ich habe Dir zugetrunken! | I’ve drunk to you! |
Hest den Rechten dropen! | Du hast den Richtigen getroffen! | You met the right one! |
So hebt wi dat immer doh’n! | So haben wir das immer getan! | That’s how we always did! |
So schall dat ok wieter goh’n! | So soll das auch weiter gehen! | That’s how it shall go on! |

Thanks, Hedy. I love water too. That is why we live near to the lake and North Sea. I wish you a good start of your week. Reinhold
I’m in a land locked area well we have a river…I love the sea! Sending joy over the pond ☺️
Such beauty. Really stunning work, Reinhold.
Thanks, Amy! It is a beautiful spot in our area. And fortunately only some tourists in the holiday season. I wish you a great time. Smiles. Reinhold
I can see why you love this area . It is beautiful ..such wonderful images Reinhold. Thanks for sharing ..
Thanks, Julie. A beautiful spot indeed. Centuries ago the lake was frozen in a very cold winter. After three tanks of the army successfully crossed the lake it was opened for the public. That was the first and last time the Christmas Market was on the lake itself. Cheers. Reinhold
Beautiful shot and a very serene subject. I appreciate its minimalism.
Always a place to visit. Thanks, Angela!
These are lovely Reinhold. Thank you for sharing them.
Thanks, Sherry. Always a pleasure… sharing images and reading your comments.
Low german? Ist das bayrisch? 🙂 🙂 🙂
Plattdeutsch. Bayrisch wird im Norden eher selten gesprochen. LG. Reinhold
