I sometimes call this our “coast of nothingness”. No rocks, no cliffs, no waves, no foreground interest. And could you believe that? They have taken away the remains of this old pier and built a concrete stone “wave breaker” into the wadden sea. What are they doing? Killing the last pieces of interest? I felt miserable when I saw it last weekend. 😦

WADDEN SEA
The Wadden Sea is the largest unbroken system of intertidal sand and mud flats in the world. The site covers the Dutch Wadden Sea Conservation Area, the German Wadden Sea National Parks of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, and most of the Danish Wadden Sea maritime conservation area. It is a large, temperate, relatively flat coastal wetland environment, formed by the intricate interactions between physical and biological factors that have given rise to a multitude of transitional habitats with tidal channels, sandy shoals, sea-grass meadows, mussel beds, sandbars, mudflats, salt marshes, estuaries, beaches and dunes. The area is home to numerous plant and animal species, including marine mammals such as the harbour seal, grey seal and harbour porpoise. Wadden Sea is one of the last remaining large-scale, intertidal ecosystems where natural processes continue to function largely undisturbed.

Reinhold
da reicht die Zeit wohl leider nicht ….
Gorgeous work, Reinhold. So sad about the pier. I’ve had similar experiences of photographing something that I love – trees, old buildings- and then, later, find that they are gone. It’s like a death. It does speak to the importance of documentation in photography.
And it goes on, Jane! I posted an image of an old, old tree a while ago. In winter, in fog… always a place I go to. They have cut it down. It stood at the edge of a field, near the woodlands… Thanks for your comment. Reinhold
SUPER!
Vielen Dank, Alois!
Breathtaking images. Love the captures of the clouds. 🙂
Oh my .. you know what my friend? You just keep getting better and better .. love your work 😃
really nice work
What a shame they took away the old pier, but I’m sure you’ll find great images nonetheless. Time to embrace some minimalism, perhaps? Love the dramatic sky in the first shot!

Thanks for sharing the background on this location. Great compositions, my fav is the second one – quite spectacular
You are welcome. And thanks for your inspiring comment. Greetings. Reinhold
Fascinating. I never heard of the wadded sea… very flat but still beautiful in its way.
Thank you, Maggie!
You have managed to capture beauty out of nothingness…
Thank you, Maureen!
Your shots are beautiful. Unfortunate about the old pier. I grew up on the West Coast of Florida and then moved to East Coast of it later so I’m familiar with ever changing pier and tide wall structures. I was not familiar with Wadden Sea, but the mention of Schleswig-Holstein had me look it up. My maternal Van Hoose line has been traced back to that area. 🙂 There’s something about a coastline that soothes the soul. -Amy
Thank you, Amy! We spent 4 months in the UK in 2014 and I have seen untouched coast lines with cliffs, rocks, sandy beaches… I am a bit frustrated as a landscape photographer with “MY” coastline. I see your point of a coastline that soothes the soul. But after a while (regular visits over the last 2 years) I could do with some excitement. Thanks again for your inspiring comment. Greetings and smiles. Reinhold
I would agree with you about the loss of the ruins of the old pier….grrrr
I know where your grrrr! comes from, Sue. Remember all of your comments….
All of my comments?
At least those related to wooden structures and groynes. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Ah, of course!
😃
I do hope that there will be left some poetry in nature.
Not much hope left here! Thanks for your comment and for stopping by. Reinhold
Excellent.
Thank you!
