Happiness, true happiness, is an inner quality. It is a state of mind. If your mind is at peace, you are happy. If your mind is at peace, but you have nothing else, you can be happy. If you have everything the world can give – pleasure, possessions, power – but lack peace of mind, you can never be happy. – Dada Vaswani
Water is always a support or a healing thing apart from, you know, love or peace of mind. – Nastassja Kinski
A few hot days. > 30° C / 90° F. No rain. The rain started last night. At 2 am. It rained the whole night. When I got out this morning to shoot this image I was wet within minutes. Not because it was still raining. No… the rain had stopped. But humidity was extremely high. I had to convince myself that it was okay to get wet feet and wet clothes. Next time I see Michelangelo I will have a word with him.
Today I was searching through my files and stumbled over one of my all time favorites. I captured the image in Frankfurt years ago, when I was into street photography and urban landscapes. Today I read about the artist Steve Donwood, who did all the album artwork for the band Radiohead. He said that computers are alienating because they put a sheet of glass between you and whatever is happening. Finally he said: “You never really get to touch anything that you’re doing unless you print it out”. That’s what I did with the image above. And it feels awesome.
See you on Thursday next week. Happy days. Reinhold
