“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
— Elliott Erwitt

… after 1 week and weekend full of new photograhy projects I first want to apologize for no or late replies to your comments and for no feedback to your recent posts.
Taking photographs of horses and dogs fills up a Lightroom folder very quickly. 500 images per shoot are the default, not the exception. Reviewing these images, selecting the “good” ones and doing basis adjustments in LR turns long days into long nights. The hit ratio at day 1: 50%, day 2: 70% day 3: 40% (bad weather) and finally the weekend: 80%. Lesson learned: a Fuji X-T1 can do the job, especially the new focus features helped a lot. I rented a Fuji 50-140 2.8 lens (70-200 2.8 FF equivalent). Can you do the job without such a lens? NO! Definitely NO! Shutter speeds of 1000-2000 crank up the ISO very quickly to 3600 or 6400. You get a lot of noise. At the end I used the “Manual” mode only. Set the aperture, set the shutter speed and than set the ISO. If you see an image in your electronic view finder it is time to think about single, area or tracking focus and single or burst mode. Continuous focusing is a must. On day 1 I missed nearly every chance of an image. I had to learn very quickly. Another observation: if I want to be successful (means earning money) in this area I need a Canon D1 X II oder Nikon D5 + a 70-200 2.8 prime lens. Now we are talking about 8 to 10K €. It is the only time where gear matters. But so far I am very proud of my Fuji X-T1. Smiles. Reinhold
Image 9/20 – Beauty… and others are the reason why I have to pause for a few days. I will be back as soon as possible. I will definitely complete this series. But new interesting projects are in the pipeline! See you soon.
